True inclusion is not just about giving marginalized groups a seat at the table; it is about equipping them with the tools, confidence, and voice to lead the conversation. Recently, the National Union of Women with Disabilities of Côte d’Ivoire (UNAFECHI) took a monumental step forward by hosting an intensive capacity-building workshop aimed at fostering inclusive empowerment. the training brought together dynamic women eager to sharpen their professional and interpersonal skills.

The core theme of the workshop centered on a crucial pillars for self-advocacy, « Capacity building in public speaking, leadership, and team development. » For women living with disabilities, mastering public speaking is more than a professional asset—it is a vital tool for breaking down societal stereotypes, asserting their rights, and driving policy change.
A major highlight of the training session was the module on « Transformational Leadership and Team Development in Organizations and Institutions. The session was masterfully facilitated by Prof. Samba DIAKITÉ, an esteemed World University Service of Canada -(WUSC) Volunteer Advisor in Gender Equality and Social Inclusion and Aka Saraka Brou Joanna , point focal genre et equite a l UNAFECHI.

Prof. Diakité’s session focused on shifting traditional leadership paradigms toward a « transformational » approach—one that inspires, motivates, and creates cohesive teams capable of institutional influence. Through practical exercises, participants learned how to structure impactful speeches, lead diverse teams, and champion gender equality and social inclusion within their respective communities. The energy in the room was electric as participants, uniform in their vibrant orange UNAFECHI attire, engaged deeply with the material, shared experiences, and collaborated on team-building strategies.
